June Recap of Findings & Things
A lot of happenings in one month. Sharing the cool and helpful stuff.
I started having this wild motivation to creatively put all the things that were giving my baby a smile and also myself, then I’m sure some other person out there might too.
Visually compiling it out actually was the creative outlet I needed. I did this in between one nap and can’t easily falling asleep. Here you go…
The Run-Down:
Kindred Bravely - you think all under garments are created equal until you’re pregnant, nursing, or postpartum, and then you quickly realize that these everyday pieces of clothing have a whole new meaning than they ever did.
Olipop & SunSip Soda - these drinks I discovered after long days and a hurting back, I found myself wanting a non-alcoholic beverage. Walking over to our neighborhood grocery store, I’d just stroll through their beverage cooler and aisle, which I’m very happy they have thoughtful selections that would make anyone feel good about their choice of beverage (good ingredients and companies). A fun soda that also has fiber.
Reading & Teething - nostalgic “Hawaii is a Rainbow” is such a great addition to our baby’s book collection that he loves, especially with seeing in color now. Surfing our way into our hearts is “Hubi’s Surf Atlas”. Our baby has us reading this book almost every week! It’s such a fun way to let our baby learn about continents, the ocean, cultures, and follow the endearing fictional character Hubi as he surfs his way around the world with the help of his grandma — c’mon, how cute is that?! These have been great distractions to help with all things teething and new strength developments.
Solids - we’ve kept it easy and started with foods that are safe and that we already have in the house. These staples like breadfruit, banana, papaya, and fresh poi. A new solid that we introduced is watermelon since it’s that time of year, and it’s a liked choice by our baby! But our baby go-to choices are poi and breadfruit. When the gums are hurting, we use a fruit teether for frozen banana!
New Podcast - since going to Tahiti last year for our honeymoon and visiting family, I’ve reallized just how important it’s going to be to a conversational level in French if I ever want to fully communicate with my family. Next year is our family reunion in Tahiti, so starting now, I found some free things online to help - music, tv shows (L’Agence Paris is a favorite of in our household!), and Duolingo which also has a French podcast. They’re such great episodes of true stories in French and English to help with context. We’re on the older episodes, but slowly working our way up.
Creative Mornings Honolulu - hosted in our very own neighborhood of Kaka’ako is a monthly event of creative talks with local creatives in the community, focused on whatever the month theme is. This month’s theme: Patterns and last month was Vibrant. All of the discussions, I’ve left with takeaways that were digestible and left a lasting impression on me, which has motivated me to show up through the rest of the day, week, and month for myself and my family. Our baby gets up early anyways so finding a friendly community with inspiring talks and takeaways over local coffee and donuts was a no brainer for us. It’s also family friendly, as I found other parents with their little ones joining as well. I’ll be taking baby with me on the next one for sure.
